At Hill Electric, we get to do some pretty interesting work for our clients. In fact, we usually have our hands on some extremely technical projects. In this month’s blog, we want to go over four important industrial electrical terms in our industry that are part of our everyday vocabulary but likely are unfamiliar to the average person.

Fiber Termination

Proper fiber termination is essential when you’re installing fiber optic cables. Fiber is used in data networking to transmit large amounts of data over long distances. Typically, fiber optic cable is used as the network backbone that connects data hubs. From each of the fiber supported hubs, hundreds of computers and machinery can be supported. Poor fiber terminations can cause a multitude of problems and can be very difficult to diagnose. Therefore, it’s important that you understand the benefits of proper fiber terminations and design.

So, what is it exactly? Fiber termination refers to the process of fusion splicing a connector on each strand of fiber so that it can be properly connected to an adapter panel or device. Its main purpose is to attach a fiber connector, which enables the transmission between devices. Because fiber has to be cleaved and cleaned to tight standards, this task can be very difficult.

There are a multitude of options when it comes to available fiber configurations, terminations, splices, and devices. Hill Electric has experts to design, install, and implement a reliable and redundant communication network.

Conduit

Similar to fiber termination, conduit can be a complex installation. Conduit is a raceway for electrical conductors and provides protection from impact, moisture, and corrosion. The National Electrical Code is extensive in its guidelines for raceway installations. Hill Electric and their expert installation team are competent in raceway installations and ensuring your project meets all code requirements.

Switchgear Room

The switchgear room is the heart of a manufacturing facility. Switchgear provide the transition from the electrical utility connection to the plant distribution system. The main switchgear in a facility has the most available energy in the case of a failure. This means that when a failure does happen, it can be catastrophic and costly. This is why having a well maintained and designed area to house the switchgear ensures the safety of personnel and facility reliability. Our team are veterans of switchgear construction, installation, and renovations. We can ensure the safety and reliability of your facility switchgear and distribution system.

Machinery Installation

Machinery is designed to last for the long haul; however, proper installation is crucial in optimizing the equipment’s lifespan. From upgrades and relocations to machine customization, our main responsibility is to provide trusted installations to protect our clients’ most valuable assets.

Even though our industry is far from simple, we are trained and educated in all of the pathways to providing exceptional service in our field. Please contact us if we can help with your industrial electrical needs. It is our privilege to serve you.
